Which horses will get the track favours at Caulfield?
The meet at Caulfield has been rescheduled from Saturday to Sunday due to the severe heat forecasted for Victoria over the coming days. We’ve found two runners who will be well suited to the Melbourne track this weekend.
Caulfield Race 1 #10 So Splendid
Now in her seventh run this preparation, So Splendid is rock hard fit and is drawn to get the run of the race from barrier one. Early pace from a few runners in the race will set-up things nicely for the Chris Waller trained mare. The daughter of Savabeel gets a 4kg weight relief and travels over one of her winning distances.
Expect jockey Michael Dee to ride positively out of the gates and hold the rail before picking off the leader in the straight to leave this group of mares behind.
So Splendid is currently $5 fixed odds.
Caulfield Race 8 #5 Painte
Will get all the favours from barrier four at the Caulfield 1400m. The Darren Weir trained runner has had two starts this preparation at 1200m, both of which have been unkind to the gelding. The former Sydney-sider was denied a clear run first-up at Mornington after being blocked in the straight and then was well away second-up at Moonee Valley only to find himself awkwardly placed after the 600m to finish midfield.
The extra distance here should provide a softer tempo than he experienced in his previous run, allowing jockey Brad Rawiller to hold a prominent position from the favourable barrier. With race fitness on his side, Painte will be very strong through the line.
Painte is currently $11 fixed odds.
