Cam can do anything
Kangaroos skipper Cameron Smith is our Weekend Wonder after leading Australia to Rugby League World Cup glory over England on Saturday, capping off a remarkable season.
The win was Australia’s first World Cup triumph on home soil since 1977 and it didn’t come easy as a spirited English side threw everything at them. It was a tight battle in slippery conditions at Suncorp Stadium and a solitary try to back-rower Boyd Cordner was enough to get the green and gold home.
The victory caps off a flawless year for Smith, skippering Queensland to a 2-1 State Of Origin victory over the Blues, then leading the Melbourne Storm to their third NRL premiership after picking up the Dally M player of the year award. Just last week he added yet another trophy to the cabinet receiving the game’s highest individual honour - the coveted international Golden Boot award.
No player in the history of the game has had a more accomplished year than the talented hooker and one would think that it’s now only a matter of time before he becomes a rugby league immortal.
