About Michael Ennis

Known as one of the biggest nigglers to play the game, Michael Ennis would amass 274 first grade games across 5 different clubs. Earning a reputation as a player that many in the Rugby League fraternity loved to hate, Ennis’s tenacity and competitive grit would nevertheless earn him praise as one of the elite hookers in the game.

Ennis debuted for the Newcastle Knights in 2003, playing several different positions. Ennis would show enough promise to be picked up by the Dragons in 2005, playing a full season at his preferred hooker position. Ennis would then play for his third club in 2006, moving north to the Brisbane Broncos. It is at the Broncos where Ennis would establish himself as a future representative dummy half.

In 2009, Ennis would make another switch between clubs, this time moving to the Canterbury Bulldogs. The move proved to the right one for Ennis, who really made a name for himself with the Dogs, earning a call-up to the Blues squad that year. After making his debut for New South Wales in Game 3 of the 2009 State of Origin Series, Ennis would go on to play 8 State of Origin matches for the Blues in his career.

In 2015, Ennis made the final move of his well-travelled career, ending up in the Sutherland Shire. It was here with the Sharks that Ennis would call curtains on his playing days in 2016. Before retiring, Ennis played a pivotal role for the Sharks, helping them to finally break through for their first premiership. With that gritty 14-12 victory over the Storm, Ennis and joined a privileged club in being able to win a Grand Final in his final game of Rugby League. Since that triumph, Ennis has joined Fox Sports as a sideline commentator and pundit in what shapes as a successful transition into the rugby league media.
