Try Assists

When a player either passes or kicks the ball that directly leads to a teammate scoring a try.

Try Assists are an NRL stat that is dominated by the halfback and five-eighth, as they see most of the ball in attacking plays. Try Assists is the stat that playmakers hang their hats on, and a good measure of their effectiveness in attack.

Try Assists can also be a fantastic measure of how well a team is clicking in attack, rather than relying on individual efforts or opposition errors to score tries.

Example: “James Maloney starred in State of Origin for the Blues, recording 3 try assists.” 

Not as important as tries, try assists nevertheless demonstrate how likely players and teams are to create points. This can be useful when betting on total points scored, the margin of victory, as well as first try scorer markets.

Try Assist: A player who lays off two or more try assists in a single game is considered to have made a valuable contribution.
