Previews and Shows

Sky produces several audio visual programs throughout the week. The post-mortem program which covers Saturday meeting, Thoroughbred Weekly, airs on Sunday and is one of the most popular programs of its type amongst punters. The format reviews all major Saturday races with the panel identifying key horses to watch amongst other industry news.

Other programs include:

  • Total Trials which reviews weekly trials across the country,
  • In The Gig which covers news and views relating to Harness Racing, and
  • The Catching Pen, news and views for Greyhounds.

Sky Racing also produces special programs which look at the careers of personalities in the industry and top thoroughbreds that have retired from the sport.

Sky Tipsters

There are a significant number of expert tipsters amongst Sky's large pool of media talent. Race callers, commentators and journalists all contribute their expert opinions via their selections and best bets posted across each of the three SKY communication mediums. Each day there is at least one Sky Racing personality posting their expert opinions for any given meeting, with most of them highlighting two or three horses at the meeting as their best bets.

The race caller for any particular meeting will typically provide his/her selections for each event on the program and in some cases they will highlight their best bets. The tipping statistics amassed since 2009 at has shown that this group of expert form analysts tend to produce a greater proportion of profitable tipsters compared to other groups within the Australian media.

This trend is understood to relate to their high level of exposure to races with a unique close-up view and an ear-on-the-ground at racecourses where they call.
