About Darren Lockyer

Darren Lockyer is a champion Brisbane, Queensland and Australian former player. The only person to be hailed as the world’s best player in two different positions, Lockyer is often regarded as one of the best players to ever play the game.

Lockyer would debut for the Broncos in 1995 and it wouldn’t take long for the club to reward his talent and hand him the number 1 jersey full time. In 1998, Lockyer established himself as the premier full back in the competition, winning a second consecutive Grand Final and playing for Queensland and Australia. Darren Lockyer would pioneer the way full backs play, showing an ability to ball play that no number 1 had produced before.

However, it was in 2004 when he made the transition from full back to five-eighth, that Lockyer would begin to establish himself as one of the game’s greatest players and captains. In 2006 Lockyer would skipper the Brisbane Broncos to their 5th Premiership, Queensland to State of Origin Victory and Australia to a Four Nations win, capping off one of the most successful individual seasons ever.
