Marks Inside 50

When a mark is taken inside the respective team's attacking 50 metre zone.

This is an AFL stat that is more often than not dominated by the league's best full forwards, as they are the typical target for kicks inside the 50 metre zone.

This stat not only depends on the marking prowess of the forwards inside the forward 50, but the quality of service they are getting from their midfield and defenders.

Example: “Tom Hawkins led the league with 63 marks inside 50 in 2016.”

Marks inside 50 are more telling than general marking stats as they indicate how often a team or player is having free shots at goal.

As players more often than not kick at goal after taking a mark inside 50, players who lead this AFL stat also have high goal numbers.

When betting on the Coleman Medal for most goals in the season, looking at who takes plenty of marks inside 50 is a good strategy.
