Roosters ready for fired-up Dragons

NRL punters face two interesting betting games on ANZAC Day, where there are two heavy favourites in the NRL odds markets.

While many will be expecting the Storm to make light work of the Warriors, it's the Roosters versus Dragons clash that will take centre stage.

Sydney Roosters vs St George Illawarra Dragons

NRL Odds: Roosters $1.35 (-8.5) / Dragons $3.25 (+8.5)

The traditional ANZAC Day clash is set to be a belter, with both the Roosters and Dragons in red-hot form.

The Chooks are coming off a golden-point win against the previously undefeated Storm down in Melbourne, to make it 5 wins on the trot.

Recent form doesn't get much better than that, and even though the Red V have won four on the bounce, they come into this clash as deserved underdogs in the NRL odds.

Why Roosters can win

James Tedesco and Latrell Mitchell are arguably two of the best outside backs in the league. 

Unluckily for St George, they both play for the Roosters.

These two were superb last week, with Tedesco running for a game high 208 metres and scoring a try, and Mitchell scoring 13 points including the game winning field goal.

Jared-Waerea Hargreaves was superb in the middle of the park, and he's set to get some extra support here with both Jake Friend and Sio Siua Takeiaho due to return from injury.

Even though there's a concussion cloud hanging over Luke Keary, it's hard to see anyone stopping the Tri-colours.

Why Dragons can win

The Dragons have a great record in this fixture, always seeming to rise to the occasion.

The ANZAC day match is almost like a derby, where form lines go out the window.

Speaking of form lines, the Dragons aren't doing too bad in that department, with last week's controversial win over Manly securing their fourth straight victory.

The Red V have shown in this run that if the game is close, you can count on them to scrape over the line.

If it goes down to the wire, look to Corey Norman to pull off another bit of magic.

Reasoning: As good as the likes of Tedesco and Mitchell are, the Roosters can switch off in key moments.

That will keep St George in the contest.

Melbourne Storm vs New Zealand Warriors

NRL Odds: Storm $1.18 (-12.5) / Warriors $4.75 (+12.5)

Neutrals will be hoping that the second ANZAC Day clash is a little more competitive than last year's edition.

Then, the Storm demolished the Warriors by 40 points.

Based on how both teams have started their 2019 campaigns, a similar margin of victory wouldn't be all that surprising.

Especially as star fullback Roger Tuivasa-Sheck is expected to be sidelined with a hamstring niggle.

 

Why Storm can win

The Melbournians simply couldn't go with the Roosters when they exploded out to a 20-0 lead last week.

But in typically Craig Bellamy style, his team continued to go through their processes, which was part of the reason behind their second-half revival.

Cameron Smith was also inspirational, laying on a crucial try assist, as well as completing 50 of his 51 attempted tackles.

If the Storm play only as half as good as they did in last week's second half, then they'll be winning this in a canter.

 

Why Warriors can win

If RTS does miss, then its hard to see the Warriors getting the two competition points.

While Blake Green is set to return to the starting line-up, it's the forward pack that will need to get the job done for the visitors.

That's because the Kiwi outfit are currently ranked 11th for most run metres, compared to the Storm who sit in 3rd spot.

If the Warriors lose the metre battle, then there's no way they'll be able to contain the likes of Cameron Munster in their own red zone.

And with the second most metres gained in the comp, RTS's presence or absence becomes even more important.
